Is the “in use” efficiency, averaged over the year, of a particular boiler when installed in typical UK housing conditions.

It is expressed as percentage indicating how much of the heat obtained from burning the fuel is transferred to the central and hot water system.

The SEDBUK system ensures a fair comparison between different boilers without reference to the manufacturers view of efficiency!

Since April 2005 it is required that boilers installed must be

A or B rated on the SEDBUK scale.

Band A 90% or above

Band B 86% - 90%
